Element Case, Ivyskin out iPhone 4 cases specifically to deal with reception issues

Can’t find an official iPhone 4 bumper ? Driving yourself mad trying to give your new smartphone white glove treatment ? Fret not, as a couple of case makers have outed new iPhone 4 clothing that’s meant to specifically dodge those naughty reception issues that seem to occur whenever your sweaty palm makes contact with that now infamous metal band . Element Case — the same folks responsible for the downright lust-worthy Joule stand for iPad — has just revealed their first iPhone 4 case, the Vapor (shown above). The company claims that its $79.95 enclosure provides an aircraft-grade, CNC’d aluminum frame lined with a shock-absorbent material, the latter of which “addresses iPhone 4 reception issues caused by direct hand to phone cradling.” For now, it’s up for pre-order (shipments are expected to start next week) in black / black and black / pink, with more colors to become available in the future. As for Ivyskin

How-to: Install Flash on your jailbroken iPad (for real)

We just saw Flash 10.1 ported to the iPad demonstrated in video form by Comex, and now you can get in on the action too, as long as your iPad is jailbroken. It’s called Frash, and while the plugin is still pretty early and doesn’t do video playback yet, you can definitely play games and other animations right now, and we’re told video support is forthcoming. Okay, so let’s try this out, shall we?

Why Geeks Hate the iPad

The anti- iPad imperative is reminiscent of another geek obsession: net neutrality. On that topic, bystanders are similarly perplexed as to why it’s such a big deal. But in both cases, people who inhabit the tech world have a pretty …

The Pencil iPad Stand: Smart Enough to Impress a New Yorker

Six pencils and four rubber-bands make up this iPad stand; a stand so clever that it prompted Wired.com New York Bureau Chief John C Abell to utter these words when I sent the link over IM: “That is genius. Pure genius.” The stand comes from gadget blogger Julian Horsey of Geeky Gadgets, and is the successor to his own Pencil iPhone Stand of last year. The real genius behind this is the use of pencils with erasers, and my favorite part is the lone rubber tip that reaches up to support the iPad from the back. Of course, being a New Yorker, our own John C Abell is also a smart-ass, and has some improvements on the design. First, he thinks that “sharpening the pencils seems stupid” and also says that “real genius could do it with five pencils and three bands.” I have stared at the stand for several minutes now, and I can’t see how to remove any pencil and still get a stable, solid base. Maybe that’s because I’m not from fancy New York, or maybe its because Mr

IR-beaming RedEye mini iPad / iPhone remote dongle gets real, its own video demo

Oh, sure — ThinkFlood promised us back in early March that a RedEye mini would be landing this summer, but at the time, all we had were a few luscious renders. Today, the company has finally revealed the first actual shots of the forthcoming device, along with a video showing it in action. While diminutive, it’s certainly not as compact and discrete as IR-enabled cases, but if you’ve already committed to an iPod touch / iPhone / iPad case (or just prefer rocking your device sans clothing), this here dongle is likely the next best thing. In case you’re wondering, this little guy will transform your iDevice into a universal remote, enabling it to talk to any home entertainment component that listens to IR (read: that’s just about all of ‘em).
