Philips Fidelio for Android speaker docks get your little green robot bumpin’

Philips’ line of smartphone-connected sound systems has been all up on iOS for quite sometime, but now Fidelio’s ready to show Android some love. The outfit just outed three new Android-ready speaker docks — the AS851, AS351 and AS111 — and is set to debut the flossy Fidelios at IFA this week. These new docks are so anxious to get close to your Android handset, that they’re rocking a micro-USB connector that adjusts in three dimensions to allow just about any phone to stand tall in portrait or kick back in landscape.

Invoxia NVX 610 desktop VoIP phone for iPhone and iPad hands-on (video)

If we’re going to spend $599 on a phone for our phone, it needs to offer unparalleled audio quality, absolutely seamless device integration, and a drop-dead gorgeous design. Invoxia, a new entrant to the world of VoIP telephony, claims to have created just that, with its NVX 610. The desktop unit uses an iPhone (or iPod touch or iPad) app as its control interface — the hardware itself includes only touch-sensitive volume, mute, speakerphone, and voicemail keys. With the exception of accessing your iOS device’s address book, however, all of the phone’s hardware is self-contained. Calls are processed using the built-in ARM Cortex-A8 processor, and can be made via Skype or any third-party SIP. You can also take incoming iPhone calls using the handset or speakerphone, but all outgoing calls are processed using VoIP, not your iPhone’s mobile network

According to the folks at Blackbox cases in Golden, Colorado, that material is bamboo. Previously we covered the Blackbox oak MacBook case in these very pages, but Greg and Anthony at Blackbox have moved onto more sustainable and better-looking Bamboo. Your iPad 2 slides into the case and is secured there with a laser-cut leather strap.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 hands-on (video)

Samsung may have been talking up the Galaxy Note as the hottest new piece of hardware for this year’s IFA, but it’s the Galaxy Tab 7.7 that’s got us really excited. The device is the latest entry in Samsung’s popular Android-based Galaxy Tab line, and the thing is pretty darn slick. The 7.7-inch screen is in keeping with the company’s push toward devices that straddle the line between the tablet and smartphone spaces (see also: the Note), and it is indeed a terrific form factor. This isn’t going to replace your laptop or iPad (or Galaxy Tab 10.1 ) for lengthy multimedia marathons, but it’s a great size for watching quick videos and basic computer like checking your email. It’s also exceedingly portable at 0.74 pounds. Like so many other devices launched by Samsung this year, the screen is the thing, and indeed, that 7.7-inch 1280 x 800 Super AMOLED Plus display is quite sharp and extremely bright — in fact, we had to turn the thing down while doing the below hands-on video.
